Sanford planning committee hears updates on kayak launch, trails and potential pump track

At its April 15 meeting the Village of Sanford Planning Committee heard a series of updates on park and recreation projects from Village President Dolores Porte. Porte told the committee that Spicer Group has been awarded a contract to assist the Planning Commission with future planning work. She also said the Department of Natural Resources is offering the Village more than 30 acres on the southeast side of Porte Park that the Village hopes to develop as walking trails in partnership with Little Forks Conservancy. According to Porte, the Village is applying for grants to support these efforts.
Committee members raised ideas for additional amenities: Justin Laplow voiced interest in making space available for rustic camping, and Taylor Meyette suggested exploring pickleball courts in the Porte Park area. Porte also reported a potential purchase of property north of the Sanford Historical Society to increase parking and renovate a building for use as a Village Hall; she said grant applications for that project are underway.
The updates did not include detailed budgets, timelines, or identified grant sources; Porte characterized the items as ongoing planning and grant-seeking activities. The committee did not take formal votes on any of the projects at the meeting. The Planning Committee will continue work on the projects and on a broader recreation plan at its next meeting on May 6, 2025, at Jerome Township Hall.
