Perry council approves changes to paid sick-leave accrual and payout

The Perry City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the city's Personnel Policy on Jan. 16 that clarifies sick-leave accrual for part-time employees and limits payouts when employees separate from service.
Under the approved changes, part-time employees will accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. The amendment also states that full-time employees who quit or are terminated are not eligible for payout of accumulated sick leave, and that part-time employees will not be paid out for unused sick time.
Councilmember Mike Connell moved the amendment and Mayor Pro-Tem Larry Lambert seconded; the motion carried with all members voting in favor. The minutes record the exact policy language as adopted under section E, Paid Sick Leave.
The council did not provide additional implementing guidance at the meeting, such as when the change takes effect for current employees or how accrued balances will be calculated for payroll processing.
