Easton municipal agent outlines senior services, oil-aid and Feb. 12 'Lunch and Learn'

Municipal Agent and Social Services Director Daniel Simonelli told the Easton Commission for the Aging on Feb. 2 that a set of ongoing senior services and outreach efforts remain active as winter continues to drive needs.

Simonelli reported that oil assistance for heating is still underway and said recent wintry weather underscores continued demand among older residents. He said he will continue distributing gift cards to seniors every few months as part of routine outreach and described the program as successful.

The municipal agent also said Town budget meetings will begin in March; he is reviewing his department's budget and trusts and does not plan to change them at this time. Simonelli said he is coordinating with the First Selectman's office on other initiatives, including a Food Pantry project for which there is not yet a final location.

Simonelli announced a "Lunch and Learn" program scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Easton Senior Center; the session will focus on "Understanding Alzheimer's." He said his goal is to hold quarterly presentations on topics pertinent to seniors and that members of the Commission had offered help with outreach and logistics.

He added that he is working with the Town Emergency Planning Team to advise older residents on safety and storm preparedness, and that he plans to attend several local SWCCA programs to help that organization assess grant opportunities and project goals.

The commission received the report as information; no formal votes related to these service items were recorded. The Commission adjourned at 5:28 p.m.; its next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, from 5-6 p.m. at the Easton Senior Center.
