Easton task force to research HB8002, Connecticut's 8-30g and local housing options

First Selectman Dan Lent opened the Easton Affordable Housing Task Force meeting on Feb. 16 and outlined the group's purpose under recently enacted HB8002 and related state housing laws.
The task force agreed to a Phase 1 research agenda to build expertise in Connecticut's Section 8-30g, HB8002 and other pending housing legislation, the committee said. The research phase is intended to inform potential local measures to meet state requirements and expand affordable housing options in Easton.
Committee members suggested several local options during introductions and early discussion, including establishing a real-estate tax to fund a town affordable housing program, permitting accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and creating a group home for adults with special needs. These ideas were presented as options for further research rather than adopted policy.
Beverly Dacey, a committee member, said she will contact Easton State Representative Tony Scott and regional planners Matt Fulda of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (Metro COG) and Dan Onofrio of BRBC to invite them to attend the next meeting as guest participants. The task force will schedule its next meeting based on the availability of those guests.
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. and adjourned at 8:05 p.m. The Phase 1 research plan was recorded as a consensus direction to staff and members; no formal motion or roll-call vote was recorded in the minutes.
