During the Jan. 20 meeting Scott Leard spoke for the Department of Public Works about staffing needs, saying a mechanic vacancy remains open and field labor demand has grown. Leard proposed adding two positions: a Facilities Manager/Repairperson and a Laborer, and suggested deferring filling the mechanic vacancy or re-titling it to Facilities Manager to meet current needs.
Selectboard members discussed the proposal's scope and compensation. Vice Chair Brian Rater said a Facilities Manager could consolidate responsibility for drafting some general government budget elements; Selectboard Chair Eddie Arnold recommended hiring the role to work under the DPW director and assessing additional responsibilities in the following year. The board asked staff to determine a pay grade and finalize warrant language so the position(s) can be considered at town meeting.
