Student representatives, athletes and Eagle Scouts honored at Toms River board meeting

The board issued multiple recognitions: High School North’s softball team was honored as Liberty Division champions and coach Julia Fisha praised the players’ resilience in turning around a difficult prior season. Several Eagle Scouts were recognized for community service projects, including construction of picnic areas and sensory tables, and district staff presented more than 50 elementary musicians who participated in regional honors ensembles.
High School East awards included recognition for an Eagle Scout service project at the Field of Dreams, a first‑place selection at the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival (pianist Christina Dakrat), and a Governor’s STEM Scholar (Isabella Merino) who worked on an air‑pollution research project using a zeolite filter for NOx reduction.
The awards portion included short presentations by principals, coaches and teachers and concluded with Scoutmaster Jamie Roland summarizing local troop projects. The board noted committee reports are available on the district website and then moved to the meeting’s consent business items.
Community reaction was supportive throughout, with applause following the student remarks and award recipients. The meeting then proceeded to several consent approvals and the board adjourned the public session.
