Library to vacate Annex; Selectboard weighs storage, book sales and repairs

The Selectboard heard that the upstairs of the Annex has significant water damage and other problems. Brian Rater reported that the Library staff and the new Library Director are reducing the Annex collection, removing items they wish to keep and disposing of the remainder, with the goal of fully vacating the Annex.
Friends of the Library told the board they would like to continue holding book sales and storing books at the Annex; minutes say these sales generate several thousand dollars annually. The Conservation Commission reported minimal storage needs and suggested they could store items in the kitchen and bathroom area if access is safe, or move items downstairs.
The Fire Department expects minimal storage needs and has discarded most stored items; a conversation with the Fire Association about remaining items is still needed. The 1939 fire truck may remain in the Annex pending further decisions. Board members discussed repair timing (likely in spring) and repurposing sturdy shelving units elsewhere in town.
A meeting with members of the Selectboard and Library Trustees to discuss a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was scheduled for Thursday, according to the minutes.
