KANAB, Utah — At its June 9 meeting, the Kane County Commission approved several resolutions and a court security contract addressing public safety, fire protection and employee retirement contributions.
Commissioner Patty Kubeja moved to approve the Fiscal Year 2027 bailiff and security contract with the State of Utah Sixth District Court after Sheriff Tracy Glover reported the contract reflects a significant funding increase aimed at aligning the court's contribution with staffing and perimeter security needs. The motion carried unanimously.
The board approved Resolution R 2026-12 to annex five parcels owned by three landowners into the Vermillion Cliffs Special Service District. Commissioners said annexation into Kanab City was not possible for these parcels because of contiguity requirements; annexation into the special service district was intended to ensure access to fire protection.
The commission also adopted Resolution R 2026-13 authorizing the employer pick up of Utah Retirement Systems Tier II public safety employee retirement contributions. The minutes record an overall net change of 0.75 percent to contribution handling; the board said the fiscal impact to the county budget would be minimal.
All actions were approved by unanimous vote. The public minutes do not include contract dollar amounts for the bailiff/security agreement or the detailed actuarial calculations behind the URS change; staff follow‑up is implied for contract finalization and implementation.
