Selectmen allow one-time church use of Town Hall dumpster, hold elderly exemption and note facility issues

The Danville Board of Selectmen on June 15 approved a one-time, conditional use of the Town Hall dumpster by the local Baptist Church for a summer kick-off event, while handling several routine administrative matters.
Vale VanDoorne-Freeman, the Selectmen’s Administrator, said the church expects more refuse than its own dumpsters can accommodate and requested use of the Town Hall dumpster. Shawn O'Neil objected to regular use of town-owned resources for a private entity and emphasized that any allowance should be limited and conditional. The board agreed to permit the one-time use provided the church designates a person to hold the dumpster key and returns it the next day; they were warned future use would be charged.
Annemarie Inman said the Town Hall dumpsters appeared to have been emptied that day, making the request feasible on a one-time basis, and asked staff to make clear the allowance is not recurring.
On other business, Annemarie Inman said the Tax Collector, Kim Burnham, submitted documentation related to an elderly exemption application; the board agreed to hold the item until members can speak with Kim to resolve timing discrepancies and whether exemptions transfer with property owners who move addresses. Joe Hester reported sporadic fire-alarm activations at the Community Center and recommended notifying Kim Burnham and asking the Fire Department to inspect the system. The board also noted successful school graduations and a Tailwinds Raptor show hosted by the ACO, and scheduled Old Home Days for Aug. 21–23.
Shawn O'Neil asked about Budget Committee scheduling; Joe Hester said he had not checked his email and told the Budget Committee chair he would not respond to same-day meeting requests. The board approved the June 1 public minutes (Shawn O'Neil moved; Joe Hester seconded) and adjourned at 7:33 p.m. (motion by Joe Hester, seconded by Scot Barr).
