Pigeon council approves Speedcheck purchase, hires part‑time officer and sets Halloween hours

The Village of Pigeon Council voted Sept. 23 to buy a portable Speedcheck device for $4,420 and to hire a part‑time police officer, moves the council said are intended to support enforcement and community safety.
Chief Adam Csanyi presented the police operations report and the vendor quote for the portable Speedcheck, which the council approved to be paid from the Police Equipment Fund. Trustee Michael Wehner moved the purchase and Trustee Kent Shetler seconded; the motion carried with all eligible members voting in favor.
Council also approved hiring Scott Jobes as a part‑time officer. Trustee Matt Zimmerman moved to hire Jobes and Trustee Marc Hill seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
As part of routine public‑safety planning, the council set the village’s 2024 Trick‑or‑Treat hours for Thursday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The council also established a 9:00 p.m. curfew for anyone 17 and under on Oct. 29, Oct. 30, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1; Trustee Kent Tibbits moved the measure and Trustee Kent Shetler seconded. The council recorded the votes as 'All Ayes.'
The measures were presented as routine operational items during the police report; no dissent or conditions on the approvals were recorded. The council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will provide opportunities for additional public comment and follow‑up on department needs.
