The Village of Pigeon Council unanimously accepted the village—s 2023–24 audit during its Aug. 19 meeting, auditor Kylie Braun of Nietzke & Faupel PC told the council.
Braun summarized the village—s fiscal position for the year ending Feb. 29, 2024, saying the General Fund unassigned fund balance grew to $1,110,856 (105.7% of General Fund expenditures). She reported the Sewer Fund—s unassigned balance increased to $746,330 and the Water Fund ended the year with an unassigned balance of $162,907, up from a deficit of $12,945 the prior year. The Trunkline Fund rose to $8,045. The village—s total debt decreased by $237,548, while pension funding declined from 98.3% to 88.1%.
"Overall the village had a very good year," Braun stated in her presentation.
The audit presentation was followed by a motion from Trustee Kent Shetler, seconded by Trustee Michael Wehner, to accept the audit as presented; the motion carried with all members voting yes. The council did not record any additional follow-up tasks or requests for supplementary reports in the transcript.
The acceptance of the audit keeps the village on a path of reported improved liquidity in most funds, while the noted drop in pension funding signals a future liability the council may want to monitor. The council did not set a date for any further action on the pension position during the meeting.
