The Arvon Township School Board on Dec. 10, 2024, voted to deny a school-of-choice request for the coming year and completed routine business including approval of inter-district cooperation agreements and acceptance of a water-filtration grant.
President M. DeLine called the meeting to order at 4:59 p.m. and a quorum was recorded. K. Hendrickson moved to accept the meeting agenda, seconded by N. Wahmhoff; the motion passed AIF (all in favor). The board accepted the minutes from the Nov. 11, 2024 meeting by consent.
T. Hollon, listed among school personnel, delivered the financial report and said total liabilities and equity equal $391,768.05. Lead Teacher K. Waara reported the district has transitioned from a van to a bus with minimal route changes; she said the bus provides teachers about 30 additional minutes of instructional time.
On old business the board voted down a school-of-choice request for the entire year and agreed to notify the intermediate school district (ISD) of that decision. The board also discussed the status of the former van and noted Hancock School may be interested in acquiring it.
The board reported it received a grant to fund a water filtration system; members noted the district will pay costs up front and seek reimbursement under the grant terms. In new business the board approved cooperation agreements with L'Anse and Baraga Schools; those motions passed AIF.
The board set a reorganization meeting for Jan. 14, 2025, at 4:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:00 p.m. N. Wahmhoff moved to adjourn at 5:37 p.m., seconded by K. Laramore; the motion passed AIF.
