Arvon Township School Board discusses bus fueling, driver training and water station grant

At its Nov. 11 meeting the Arvon Township School Board discussed transportation and facilities items including a plan to seek a fuel discount for the school bus, an update on bus driver training, and consideration of a Michigan grant to install a water bottle filling station at the district.
K. Hendrickson raised the question of how the district will purchase gas for the school bus and said they will follow up with "the Rez" to seek a discount. The board recorded that as an action item for follow-up rather than a formal vote.
The board received a staff update on bus driver Pete Dove: he is scheduled to attend a one-week training in Escanaba, and Arvon Township School (ATS) will cover the cost of the class and required essentials for that week. The minutes record ATS's agreement to fund the training costs.
On facilities, the board discussed applying for a Michigan grant to establish a clean drinking water system (a water bottle filling station) at ATS. Members noted that if the district does not qualify for the grant the district will need to purchase a filling station using other funds.
