Pigeon council approves water tower system, equipment purchases, appointment and community displays

The Village of Pigeon Council on Feb. 25 approved a series of infrastructure and community items, including selecting UIS Option 1 for a water tower level system and authorizing related conduit work, multiple equipment purchases for DPW, personnel and community-display requests.
Trustee Michael Wehner moved and Trustee Shelly Gunden seconded a measure to approve installation of UIS Option 1 for the Water Tower Level System and to have Zimmerman & Sons Electric install conduit for the system at a cost not to exceed $12,000. The motion carried with six ayes and one abstention; Trustee Matt Zimmerman was recorded as abstaining.
Council approved purchases and repairs to support DPW operations: a front loader bucket for a New Holland LB75 from TNT Equipment ($3,625), a bagger for a John Deere 1025R (not to exceed $3,000), a Titan Powrline 850 marking sprayer (not to exceed $3,500) and Minuteman Metal Works to repair four aerators (not to exceed $6,400). All of these motions passed unanimously.
The council also approved contractor work by Booms Construction (to open between 24 & 26 S. Main St., not to exceed $13,500), authorized Business Soil to update the village website for ADA compliance ($6,400), increased the DPW weekend stipend to $120 effective March 1, 2026, and appointed Michael Pobanz as Assistant DPW Superintendent effective immediately. The council accepted an Accounts Payable report totaling $20,996.44 for Jan. 16 to Feb. 25, 2026.
In other business, the council allowed the Human Development Commission to place approximately 24 teal ribbons on downtown light poles in April for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and approved a request from Laker Area Clergy to install 15 Stations for a Passion Week Prayer Path at the Scheurer Path to Fitness and a cross on Snow Hill from March 17 to April 14, 2026. The council also approved making a $40,000 final payment to GameTime for the Playscape from the 2025/26 fiscal year.
