Resident asks to suspend "Ready to Serve" water fee for vacant lot; committee will forward request to council

Resident Matt Barrett asked the Public Service Committee on March 7 to suspend the water "Ready to Serve" fee at his vacant lot at 105 E Sycamore until he can build on the lot in five to ten years.
Andrew Rudd explained the purpose of the fee: "It is the fixed costs that don’t change depending on usage. Because there is a cost to maintain the filter, the service line, the staff; to be ready to serve when it is required." Tom Flint characterized forgiving the fee as a potentially dangerous precedent. Faulkner said the committee could not support suspending or forgiving the fee and that the request will be forwarded to Village Council for consideration at its next meeting.
The committee did not vote to suspend the fee; the record shows the committee's position as not supporting suspension and sending the issue to council for final action or further consideration.
