Three Oaks committee reviews lead-service-line inspections and approves $4,500 water-tower inspection

At the May 2 Public Service Committee meeting, Andrew Rudd reported progress on the DWAM grant-funded lead service-line inspections: "As of the end of last year, we have completed 95 of our 165 inspection locations," he said, adding that Plummers has restarted work and roughly 30 additional inspections are expected soon. Rudd said the project has encountered six refusals that prompted substitutions and that, to date, the contractor has identified about 18 service lines that will need replacement; Wightman will review collected data to determine if additional lines must be replaced.
Rudd also described the DWAM grant’s funding for an asset management plan and a related Reliability Study that will inform how many service lines require replacement and the timing of that work.
Joe Fender told the committee that the village’s water tower requires the state-mandated five-year inspection and estimated the cost at about $4,500. "It is about $4500.00; we need to get it scheduled and approved," Fender said. Flint moved and Smith supported a motion to approve $4,500 for the water-tower inspection; the committee carried the motion unanimously.
Other operational items noted by staff included coordination on valve and main replacement at Hickory and Ash via a change order tied to a bridge contract (Hoffman Brothers identified as the contractor) and routine bacteria sampling planned for the following week. Staff will return with additional inspection results and recommendations for service-line replacement sequencing.
