Mayor Linda Marble presided over the City of Galesburg council meeting on Feb. 3, where the council approved several routine budgetary and infrastructure items, including the Galesburg/Charleston Fire Board 2025–26 budget and a contract for a water‑tower inspection.
The council unanimously approved the Galesburg/Charleston Fire Board’s proposed 2025–26 budget after Fire Chief Roomsburg explained insurance is recorded under a single line and that fuel estimates are based on the prior year. Roger Frazee moved to approve the budget and Anthony Tipken seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
Council also approved a scope of services with Nelson Tank Engineering & Consulting for a routine water‑tower inspection. DPW Supervisor Ranes said the tower likely will need painting; he described the process that will require valves to be shut, the tank to be bleached and water tested before reopening. The council voted to contract with Nelson Tank to proceed with inspection and follow‑up work quotes.
Clerk Lisa McNees summarized the KATS in‑kind contribution report, noting Van Buren Public Transit is experiencing driver shortages and plans a route to Pavilion Township, and Metro Link has reported about 30,000 riders since launching last April. Council approved the city’s in‑kind contribution reporting on voice vote.
The council also approved the MS4 stormwater permit enabling Prein & Newhof to secure permits covering 2025–2029, and adopted a resolution authorizing publication of a notice of intent. All motions were approved by roll call with unanimous support.
The meeting continued with separate discussion and votes on other agenda items; the council adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
