Committee forwards Chamberlain Path engagement report to Village Council, flags rain-garden maintenance

The Village of Three Oaks Parks and Recreation Committee voted March 3 to accept a community engagement report on the Chamberlain Path and forward the materials to the Village Council for consideration.
Chair Ira Johnson presented a PowerPoint prepared by CHANGEMAKER studio summarizing community feedback on the Chamberlain Path project. Johnson said he and Joan Brown attended a DNR recreation grant-writing webinar and that he has a link to the recorded session for committee members interested in pursuing grant funding for projects like Chamberlain Path.
After reviewing the engagement results, Johnson moved to accept the information with reservations and to forward it to the Village Council. The motion was supported by Larry Shawver and approved by the committee.
Committee members also discussed maintenance issues tied to the recent installation of a rain garden along the path. Johnson said the garden may require re-seeding or placement of sod; Village Manager Dan Falkner will work with Johnson and absent member Mike Springer to determine the cost of using sod.
Other operational questions connected to the Chamberlain Path and nearby park facilities were raised: Brian Overley asked whether the "No Parking" signs on the side of Village Hall facing the park could be removed, and public commenter Sherry Trucks asked how trash pickup for the parks is managed. Falkner said he will review trash pickup with DSW staff.
The committee did not adopt design changes at the meeting; it forwarded the engagement materials and flagged follow-up items for staff cost estimates and operational review.
The committee is expected to forward the engagement packet and staff cost estimates to the Village Council for the next steps on the Chamberlain Path project.
