Village committee hears progress update on lagoon work, flags ice and power issues

Manager Faulkners Public Service Committee heard an update Feb. 7 on the villages wastewater lagoon project, including construction progress, operational timing and concerns about ice that could affect required discharge testing.
Paul Harvey told the committee that contractor Oselka has worked at the lagoons since December 2024 and has installed a water-control structure and a valve "which gives the ability to isolate ponds 1 and 2." Harvey said the village plans to begin spring discharge on March 1, 2025, and that staff is coordinating with AEP to secure 3-phase power at the lift station.
Matt Lindsey said crews plan to close the valve between ponds 1 and 2 next week and aim to isolate the ponds by Feb. 14, 2025. Lindsey flagged operational concerns about ice on the ponds: "The testing will be hard to pass if the ice is too thick," Nathan Smith added, offering assistance with the work.
The committee did not take a formal action beyond receiving the update. Faulkner said staff will continue coordinating with AEP and the contractor and will present any schedule or cost changes to the Village Council as needed.
