Resident urges River Ridge board to address persistent Pinehurst drainage, engineer to inspect

Shari Perkins, a River Ridge resident, told the Board of Supervisors on July 23 that drainage problems persist at the Pinehurst monument a week after staff plugged a street drain, and that a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 appears non-functional with ponding nearly 1 foot above the drain. She said she will provide photographs and video to CDD staff to document the issue.
John Baker, the District Engineer, said plugging the inlet addressed the initial problem of water from one system flowing directly into another but left the plugged inlet with “no place for the water to go,” describing the result as “akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe.” He told the Board that resolving remaining ponding will likely require additional study and asked that staff and residents supply photos or video to aid the investigation.
Resident Ed Nowak asked about the location of the system’s outflow; Chuck Adams, District Manager, stated that the system ultimately drains into the Estero River and described the pipe route across private properties and into the River Club ditch. Board members directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand.
The Board did not take a formal vote on repairs at the meeting; staff noted MRI Construction had plugged the end of one pipe and that the District would seek additional proposals and engineering analysis before scheduling construction. Ms. Perkins said she will provide video footage to assist staff in diagnosing the problem.
Next steps: staff will receive the resident-provided photos/video, the District Engineer will inspect the site, and the Board will consider proposals or further study at a future meeting.
