Pigeon council approves 2025 schedule, holiday changes, repair contract and $80,000 playscape match

The Village of Pigeon Council met Jan. 14, 2025, and approved a slate of routine municipal actions including the 2025 regular meeting schedule, a change to certain employee holidays, a facilities repair contract and a village commitment to match an $80,000 Michigan Economic Development Corporation grant for a playscape project.
President Michael LePage reviewed three recommendations from the Finance Committee before the council voted to adopt the 2025 meeting calendar. Trustee Matt Zimmerman moved to approve the schedule; Trustee Michael Wehner seconded and the motion carried with all members present voting aye.
Police Chief Adam Csanyi reviewed the police department's monthly highlights, and DPW Superintendent Thomas Buschlen reported on public works activities. Clerk and Village Superintendent Steven Corrion emailed the accounts payable report covering Dec. 19, 2024, through Jan. 14, 2025, totaling $234,555.92; Trustee Shelly Gunden moved to accept the report, Trustee Matt Zimmerman seconded, and the council voted to accept the report.
On personnel policy, the council approved a proposal to designate Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and the day after Thanksgiving as full-day holidays for full-time employees. Trustee Shelly Gunden made the motion, Trustee Marc Hill seconded, and the measure passed unanimously.
The council approved a $12,910 contract with Esch Landscaping to repair the interior of the Woelke Center after Trustee Marc Hill moved for approval and Trustee Kent Tibbits seconded. President LePage said the repairs were necessary to move forward with building upkeep.
In other business, President LePage said the village is pursuing an MEDC playscape grant that requires an $80,000 local match. Trustee Matt Zimmerman moved and Trustee Marc Hill seconded a resolution committing the $80,000 match; the council voted all aye to approve the commitment.
The council reviewed committee assignments for 2025 and then adjourned at 4:37 p.m. Trustee Shelly Gunden moved to adjourn and Trustee Michael Wehner seconded.
