Glen Arbor Fire Chief reports new hire, training and sale proceeds; requests state appropriations

Fire Chief Ferguson told the Glen Arbor Township Board on March 18 that the department has hired a new full‑time firefighter/paramedic who will start work on Friday; the new hire was formerly a part‑time employee and is fully trained in department procedures.
Ferguson reported the department responded to 36 calls in February. He said the department held a boater safety class attended by more than 20 Glen Lake Community School students and that an OSHA inspection is scheduled; the inspection identified six minor violations which the department corrected.
The chief said the department has been approved by the State of Michigan to sponsor continuing‑education courses, which will run in the county, and reported the department received a $10,000 payment related to the sale of an Empire Township engine. Ferguson added that a state appropriations request has been submitted to the offices of Rep. Coffia and Sen. Damoose.
All of the chief’s updates were reported to the board; the meeting minutes do not record extended discussion or questions from trustees on these items. The board also noted written zoning and assessor reports were on file.
The board adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
