Neighbors at Home receives $10,000; Friends of Northfield Seniors report grants and events; routine votes approved

Betty Whitcomb told the Council on Aging that $10,000 secured by state Sen. Jo Comerford for village organizations in Franklin County has been deposited. The money will support a town-wide bulk mailing, fund the COA's Spring Brunch at Zeke's, and reimburse volunteer drivers for mileage driven between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026. Betty also said Shirley Keech will step down as president of Neighbors at Home and Betty plans to step down as treasurer at the group's annual meeting in July.
Kathy Eaton, representing Friends of Northfield Seniors, reported that new Senior Center chairs were paid for with a Formula Grant, that a cans-and-bottles deposit drive is ongoing, and that the Friends' treasury balance is $2,135.63; the group is exploring alternate venues for its Pints for Programs fundraiser.
The Community Preservation Committee (reported by Chair Meg Livingstone) received two funding applications: one for continued upgrades to Center Cemetery including weather-safe markers for about 16 Revolutionary War veterans, and one to fund a mini split for the Dickinson Memorial Library's historical documents room. The next CPC meeting is scheduled for March 17, 2026 at 1 p.m.
