The Select Board heard an update Feb. 17 on the Grandin Water District transition and related local water infrastructure coordination.
Chair Barbara “Bee” Jacque and Town Administrator Andrea Llamas reported meetings with Senator Comerford and Kristen Elechko from the governor’s office to discuss water and sewer infrastructure, EMS needs and the Schell Bridge project; those contacts have suggested avenues for grant funding. The minutes note that a waiver is in place to permit transfer of the water company to the new water district, and that East Northfield Water Company (ENWC) has provided financial and legal assistance for the transition and helped resolve a local valve issue by opening a connection to restore water service.
The board discussed ongoing interviews for a water‑plant operator and noted that Dennis McCarthy, who is moving to Northfield and is familiar with a campus water system in California, may be designated by the Thomas Aquinas representative Tim Cosgrove to serve as a Grandin Water District commissioner. The town said it remains interested in finding a resident to fill the appointed position.
