Heard County appoints Marti Caputa to Board of Health, adopts $150 commercial pool inspection fee and updates speed limits

The Heard County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several administrative items at its Feb. 28 meeting, including the appointment of Marti Caputa to the Heard County Board of Health, adoption of a $150 annual commercial pool inspection fee, and approval of updated speed limits on county-maintained roads to allow the Sheriff's Office to renew its Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) radar permit.
Chairman Lee Boone reported a vacancy on the Board of Health following the resignation of Chris Cumbie. Ms. Diann Adams of the Heard County Health Department told the board she had spoken with Marti Caputa, who stated she would serve the remainder of Mr. Cumbie’s term. Commissioner Larry Hooks moved to appoint Caputa; Commissioner Frank Crook seconded and the board unanimously approved the appointment.
Under Old Business, Chairman Boone relayed the Board of Health’s recommendation that the county set an annual inspection fee of $150 for any commercial pools in Heard County. The board reviewed comparative fees from surrounding counties and approved the $150 fee on a motion by Commissioner Frank Crook seconded by Commissioner Sandi Allen. Commissioner Gwen Caldwell said she did not want a church organization to pay the fee unless the church was renting its facility for profit.
Chairman Boone also presented an updated list of speed limits on county-maintained roads required by GDOT for the Sheriff’s Office to renew its radar permit. On a motion by Commissioner Sandi Allen with a second from Commissioner Larry Hooks, the board unanimously approved the updated speed limits.
The board also approved a small reimbursement request from Chairman Boone for $52.00 in parking fees incurred while attending the ACCG Legislative Conference in Atlanta. The meeting schedule for the board was set to remain on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the Heard County Courthouse.
