Heard County awards three road contracts totaling about $1.14 million

For resurfacing Armstrong Mill Road (U.S. Highway 27 to Notnomis Road) the board accepted the low bid from C.W. Matthews for $371,778.50. A surface-treatment package covering multiple roads — including Billy Smith Road, Ferry Road, Butler Road, Wehadkee Road and Victory Road — was awarded to Everett Dykes Grassing for $303,210.20. A separate microsurfacing package covering South River Road, Caney Head Road and Antioch Road went to Hudson Construction for $461,485.60.
Mr. Wiggins is recorded in the minutes as recommending acceptance of the low bids. Each award was approved individually by unanimous vote: Armstrong Mill motion (Allen), second (Cammon); surface treatment motion (Caldwell), second (Allen); microsurfacing motion (Crook), second (Caldwell).
The board did not record county funding splits in the discussion. Project Manager Hamby presented the bids and the board directed staff to proceed with contract processing and scheduling.
