Heard County OKs two AT&T communication towers after public hearing

The Heard County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two special-use permits March 27 for communication towers proposed by New Cingular Wireless, d/b/a AT&T. Chairman Lee Boone opened a public hearing on the applications and said the Heard County Planning Commission had recommended approval.
Kathy Jacobs, representing AT&T, told the board the towers "would be active and in service in 2015 or 2016." There were no public or adjacent landowner objections during the hearing. On a motion by Commissioner Sandi Allen, seconded by Commissioner Larry Hooks, the board closed the hearing and later approved the special-use requests with the understanding the towers would be used.
The approvals permit towers to be sited on Sellers Road and Highway 34E; the applications were considered separately but approved together as presented. The board recorded no conditions beyond requiring the towers to be placed into service as stated by the applicant.
The board voted unanimously on the motion to approve the permits. No formal appeals or variances were recorded during the meeting; the county will proceed with any required permitting steps before construction.
