Planning commission outlines Master Plan survey, schedules Longcore hearing and flags Blackberry Farm PUD possibility

At the Sept. 19 meeting the Grant Township Planning Commission discussed the Master Plan survey and outreach methods, and reviewed several items for future agendas.
Commissioners brainstormed survey questions aimed at resident priorities: whether items from the previous Master Plan were not achieved; preferences for keeping the township rural or adding commercial land; interest in industrial areas; and whether the school property for sale on Fox Dr. might be considered for township use. The minutes note that grants are available to acquire land for parks or a nature center and that the commission intends to add an online survey link (with a possible QR code), post the survey on the township website and keep hard copies in the office. A board member (Brad) was assigned to prepare a draft survey for the commission to review.
Under new business, the commission flagged an Oct. agenda item: a hearing for Longcore concerning a private road; the commission noted a maintenance agreement may be necessary to access a back parcel. The commission also discussed Blackberry Farm and whether a planned-unit development (PUD) might be an option and agreed to continue that discussion at a later date. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.; the next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
