Broken Bow council hearing: variance request for Country Club Estates withdrawn

Broken Bow Mayor Rod Sonnichsen opened a public hearing at 6:02 p.m. on March 23 on a variance application for Country Club Estates before the City Council.
City Attorney Jason White and private attorney John Sennett told the council the variance request was withdrawn after attorneys concluded the subdivision is grandfathered by a 2002 approval. They said that while the subdivision’s approval precludes the requested variance, any new builders in the subdivision will still be required to obtain building and zoning permits from the City of Broken Bow.
Councilmember Jacob Holcomb moved to open the hearing and David Schmidt seconded; the motion carried on a roll call vote. After the attorneys’ statements, Holcomb moved and Larry Miller seconded to close the public hearing at 6:09 p.m.; the motion carried on a roll call vote. The council did not take further action on the variance because the application was withdrawn.
The withdrawal leaves the subdivision’s status tied to its prior approval while preserving the city’s permitting process for future construction.
