Yamhill County hears YCOM chair on proposed $190 monthly user-dues increase

Sheriff Sam Elliott, chair of the YCOM Executive Board and the Yamhill County Sheriff, told the Board of Commissioners on June 4 that YCOM is recommending a $190 monthly increase to user dues after reductions in 2020 and 2021 left the agency underfunded.
Saying YCOM has received about 13 responses to a 2025 request for information on advancing radio communications, Elliott described YCOM’s funding split — roughly 80% of user dues paid by police agencies and 20% by fire agencies — and noted that YCOM operates over the county-owned radio system. County Administrator Ken Huffer told commissioners the county expects to present a budget adjustment at the board’s June 11 hearing to reflect the proposed increase.
The increase, Elliott said in his presentation, is intended to reconcile earlier decreases and to fund planned improvements identified in the RFI process. The Board did not take immediate action on the proposal during the June 4 session; the county staff and YCOM will be available at the June 11 budget hearing for further review and possible formal budget adjustments.
