A local resident told the Grant Township Planning Commission on July 18, 2024, that they are seeking a special-land-use permit to operate a wedding venue in an old farmhouse that currently sits in a residential zone. The minutes record that the owner would first present the proposal to the township board; if the board approves, the item would then come to the planning commission with a recommendation.
In related old-business discussion the commission said an amendment is needed to Section 3.6 (Wedding Venues) and that the Wedding Venue definition can be found in the Banquet Facilities/Event Center section; commissioners also noted a needed amendment to the definition of General Commercial as a special use. Those definition changes were identified as housekeeping items the commission will need to address in their zoning text.
No formal motion or vote on the land-use request or the definition amendments is recorded in the minutes; next procedural steps noted in the minutes are for the property owner to present to the township board and for staff/commission to consider the required text amendments. The commission also scheduled a ZBA hearing for August 1 (as noted in meeting scheduling).
