Planning Commission declines to recommend pursuing a marijuana facility in Lincoln

Treasurer and zoning administrator Mahalak told the Lincoln Village Council on Sept. 4 that the Planning Commission has decided not to recommend pursuing a marijuana facility in the village.

The update came during reports to the council at its regular meeting at Village Hall. Mahalak said the Planning Commission’s decision followed a Town Hall meeting and a follow-up discussion with commissioners; the Planning Commission’s view was reported to the council by Mahalak, but no formal ordinance or council vote on the subject was recorded at the meeting.

The announcement matters because the Planning Commission’s recommendation will guide whether the council takes steps to draft or pursue any land-use change or regulatory framework for a marijuana facility. President Phillips also said the council will be working on zoning ordinance updates and invited community participation in that process.
