On a motion by Commissioner James Perry and a second by Commissioner Iris Harris, the board adopted the Federal Transit Title VI Program and authorized the chairman to sign the associated contract on behalf of the county. The Title VI program implements federal civil-rights requirements for recipients of federal transit funds.
The chairman read the title of a tobacco ordinance and said it was codified to mirror state law; County Attorney Michael Hill confirmed other jurisdictions had adopted the same statute into their local code. On a motion by Commissioner Larry Hammond and a second by Commissioner David Walls, the board voted unanimously to adopt the tobacco ordinance.
Earlier in the meeting, Commissioner Iris Harris moved and Commissioner Larry Hammond seconded approval of the minutes from the Aug. 20, 2024 regular meeting and the Aug. 29, 2024 work session and called meeting; the board approved those minutes as written. The meeting closed with no executive session and a unanimous motion to adjourn at 9:43 p.m.
