Councilmember Gary moved to contract mowing services with Frontier Lawn Care LLC to maintain sites including lagoons, the Michigan Street pavilion and alley, Rotary Park, and several lots on Main, Silver and West Cherry, while Triple E Lawn Care & Snow Removal LLC will mow East and West Maplewood Cemeteries and perform fall clean-up at specified properties; Councilmember Matz seconded. The motion passed on a 5-0 roll call.
During the consent agenda, the council also approved payment of operating bills for March 2025 totaling $32,762.02 and accepted the Treasurer’s Report and financial statements for February 2025.
On a separate motion, Councilmember Crank moved and Councilmember Gary seconded to approve a Home Depot quote for renovations to the City Hall storage area — including painting, new flooring and enlarging the double-door opening — in the amount of $13,963.61; the council voted 5-0 to approve that work. Councilmembers tabled the bathroom renovation quote for further review. Staff and members discussed the difficulty of obtaining comparable contractor bids, noting that some contractors decline site visits or formal quotes, which complicates price comparison and bid evaluation.
No updated quote was available for exterior-door replacements at the City Hall complex, so the council took no action on that item.
Councilmember Crank moved and Councilmember Matz seconded to ratify the mayor’s proclamation recognizing April as Autism Acceptance Month; the motion carried 5-0.
During the second call to the public, residents raised concerns about driveway access related to the MELS (Michigan/East/Lynn/Strong) project and issues connected to a planned spring clean-up; commenters were not identified in the minutes. Earlier in the meeting staff reported that two impromptu construction meetings led to a decision to place a watermain under Michigan Street rather than in the terrace between curb and sidewalk because of obstacles in the terrace.
The council adjourned at 7:17 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
