Reading City Council unanimously approves retail authorization, license renewals, contracts and meter upgrade

Reading City Council approved a slate of routine and regulatory items unanimously at its March 11, 2025 meeting.
In new business the council granted a conditional authorization to VYBE to operate a marihuana retailer at 126 S. Main Street; the authorization requires the property closing to occur within 45 days. The motion to approve VYBE’s conditional authorization passed on a roll-call vote of 5-0 (George, Crank, Gary, Matz, Penney).
The council also renewed Native Leaf LLC’s Adult Use Class C Grow License and Adult Use Processor License for the period March 20, 2025–March 20, 2026. The license renewals passed 5-0. During the second call to the public a commenter noted that a disposal plan requirement had been discussed in relation to the license renewal; the transcript records the comment but does not identify the speaker by name.
Council approved a 2025 contract with Domestic Harmony in the amount of $2,000 and accepted, with regrets, the resignation of Charles George from the Reading Fire Board, effective immediately. Both actions passed 5-0.
On economic-development infrastructure, the council approved a letter of support for DMCI Broadband LLC’s Michigan BEAD broadband deployment project; the meeting packet described expected benefits including expanded educational access, telemedicine options and improved connectivity for low-income households and seniors.
For utility operations the council approved a proposal from SLC Meter to purchase a Badger Meter cellular AMI metering system for Phase 1 at a cost of $46,848.70. Phase 1 includes software/billing integration, staff training and the acquisition of 100 meters with cellular endpoints; the packet notes installers may coordinate these meter installs with MELS service-line replacements to reduce resident appointments. The SLC Meter motion passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote.
All recorded votes in the meeting were unanimous; no motions failed or were tabled.
