The Reading City Council on Dec. 10 accepted the resignation of Councilmember Chad Penney, effective Dec. 31, 2024, so he may assume duty as mayor on Jan. 1, 2025.
Mayor Matthews moved and VanCamp seconded the motion to accept the resignation. The motion passed 4-0 with Penney abstaining. The council announced the vacancy and said it will accept applications and letters of interest from qualified electors through 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.
During the second call to the public, Todd Crank confirmed he had submitted a letter of interest for the vacancy. Mayor Matthews offered brief remarks about her tenure on the council and said she will remain active on the Planning Commission/TIFA Board and with the Chamber.
Next steps: the council will review applications submitted by the Jan. 8 deadline and fill the seat for the remainder of the term, which runs through Jan. 1, 2027.
