School Committee approves wellness and trip policies, clubs and grants in unanimous votes

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Harvard School Committee approved several policies, extracurricular activities and grants by unanimous roll call votes.
The committee voted 5–0 to adopt Policy ADF, the updated DESE School District Wellness Program policy (Move: Mr. Killeen; Second: Ms. Joyce). The policy subcommittee also brought Policy JJ (Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular Activities) for a first read; no vote was taken. Policy JJH (Student Late Night or Overnight), after a minor edit from the subcommittee, passed by roll call vote 5–0 (Move: Mr. Killeen; Second: Ms. Joyce).
The committee approved a new Cultural Geography Club proposed by tenth-grade students (5–0; Move: Ms. Joyce; Second: Mr. Killeen) and approved an overnight Business Professionals of America trip to Southbridge (5–0; Move: Ms. Morton; Second: Dr. Covino). Members also accepted three PTO-funded grants (new music class posters; Hildreth March Madness Tournament of Books; Boundless Adventures 7th grade trip) by roll call vote 5–0 (Move: Ms. Morton; Second: Ms. Joyce). The committee approved the Jan. 26 minutes without objection.
Committee members thanked students and the PTO for their proposals and support. The approvals will allow the clubs, trip and grants to proceed under existing district procedures.
