Luther approves $60,000 road repair contract, orders small fixes and equipment repairs

The Village of Luther board on Sept. 10 approved several public-works measures aimed at short-term road stability and equipment readiness, responding to resident complaints and contractor recommendations.

President Andy Treiber provided the board with a $60,000 bid from American Asphalt to apply 300 tons of asphalt beginning on Willard Street and moving to intersections; Tiffany Clark moved to accept the bid and the motion passed on a roll-call vote. The contract was presented as a focused repair effort rather than a full resurfacing program.

Earlier in the meeting resident Dennis Karczynski asked the board to repair Lincoln Creek Road in three sections over three years and suggested chip sealing. Treiber said he would ask the contractor to inspect Lincoln Creek Road and describe what repairs would be required.

Public works issues brought additional votes: the board approved $5,000 to repair a disabled large loader used for village work and approved a $1,500 contractor recommendation to remove a berm and install three spillways at the southeast millpond culvert to stop ongoing washouts. All three motions passed by roll-call votes (Yes: Carlson, Holmes, Bacon, Treiber, Goodman, Clark, Wert).

Why it matters: the actions fund immediate, targeted fixes to stop erosion and maintain village equipment used for road and park work. The board prioritized repair contracts that can be started before winter.

Next steps: the contractor will begin work per the approved contract and will be asked to inspect Lincoln Creek Road for a separate scope of work.
