Village approves porta-john rental for LDA concert as organizers seek funds to sustain Luther Days

The council approved a request from the Luther Development Association to cover porta-john rental costs for a fundraiser concert scheduled Sept. 14.
Melanie Davis, speaking for LDA, said the group has applied for a beer license for the event, has event insurance, and is seeking community partnerships (including the sheriffs office). She asked the village to cover porta-john rental totaling $550; Tiffany Clark moved that the village purchase five porta-johns through ACE for $550 and the council approved the expenditure by roll call.
Rose Wetherall explained that Luther Days this year cost about $70,000 while generating about $30,000 in revenue, leaving a shortfall that LDA hopes to close through fundraising; the LDA account balance was reported as $20,000. Wetherall also said the group paused a previous "queen of hearts" fundraiser because of legal costs and volunteer exhaustion, though it may be considered again in the future.
The council did not require additional conditions such as expanded insurance or security staffing at the time of the vote; the clerk recorded the motion and payment authorization for five porta-johns.
