Luna Pier council approves up to $105,676 for storm-water pump repairs, adopts budget amendments and park projects

Luna Pier — At its July 25 meeting the Luna Pier City Council approved repairs to the city’s storm-water pumps and rail system at a cost not to exceed $105,676, adopted budget amendments for the 2023–2024 year and approved several parks- and facility-related items.
The motion to authorize pump repairs passed on a roll-call vote after Councilmember Neil Wakeman moved and Councilmember Dawn Gramza supported the measure. Council also approved the Parks & Recreation Committee’s request to plant trees at 7th Street Park this fall (motion by Amanda Neiding, supported by Joy Perry). Both motions were recorded as carried, with the meeting minutes stating “all in favor.”
The council approved payment and authorization for two bill warrants and a Visa charge earlier in the meeting. The minutes list Bill’s Warrant #14189 (paid) for $20,407.51, Bill’s Warrant #14190 (unpaid) for $66,663.38 and a Visa charge of $2,333.08; the consent motions to approve those items were moved by Neil Wakeman and supported by Joy Perry.
Council also adopted the 2023–2024 budget amendments after a motion from Councilmember Dawn Gramza supported by Councilmember Diana Szkatulski. The minutes record the motion as carried on a roll-call vote, “all in favor.”
Separately, the council approved repair or purchase of a refrigerator for Water Tower Park at a cost not to exceed $1,000 (motion by Amanda Neiding, supported by Joy Perry).
The pump repair authorization was the largest single amount approved at the meeting and follows public questions raised earlier about the pump-station account and expected repair costs. The minutes list the pump repair estimate as $105,676 and indicate the related account holds about $227,000; annual revenue into that account was noted in public comment as about $55,000 plus interest.
The council listed upcoming meetings and community events and adjourned at 8:12 p.m. The council did not record any dissenting votes in the minutes on the listed measures.
