"Important for us to do this right," said Kristen Palatt, one of the presenters, urging a robust rollout with professional development and coaching.
The council described a four‑week selection and implementation plan that included districtwide pilots, teacher feedback surveys and meetings with publishers. Council members argued Reveal would support conceptual understanding, student discourse and differentiated supports, contrasting it with the district’s existing materials. According to the presentation, every math teacher piloted at least one unit; grade‑level pilots replaced corresponding Eureka units during the pilot period.
Committee members discussed cost and professional development. The presenters reported a five‑year package for student consumables and manipulatives kits for every K–8 classroom priced at $108,000, described as an upfront district cost; presenters noted current per‑school spending of about $12,000. The council said ongoing professional development and coaching would accompany the rollout and that a refresher would be scheduled for new teachers at the start of the year.
Chair Erin Milne said she was impressed with the breadth of voices in the council and the selection process. The motion to adopt Reveal Math for K–8 passed by voice vote, recorded as unanimous. The committee plans to pilot Reveal at the high school level in the next school year and reassess based on teacher feedback.
The action follows the council’s stated non‑negotiables for curriculum selection: reasonable, flexible pacing; strong Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports; embedded coaching on manipulatives; student voice and choice; and clear formative and summative assessments.
