Council establishes special assessment district for Byram Lake weed treatment

The Linden City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 23 to establish a special assessment district (SAD) for weed treatment at Byram Lake and approved Resolution No. 28-24 declaring intent to make the public improvement.
City Manager Ellen Glass provided background on the association’s request and the history of lake weed treatments; Julie Shaw, representing the Byram Lake Association, said the association has conducted this work for 35 years and thanked the council and staff. Residents raised questions about effects of chemical treatments on fish, ducks and lake nutrients; Councilor Pam Howd, drawing on biological experience, noted weather and plant dynamics can influence ecological outcomes.
Motion by Ray Culbert, second by Pam Howd, carried 7-0 by roll call, approving establishment of the SAD and Resolution No. 28-24.
