Reading council approves $20,000 contribution to community fire department

The Reading City Council voted unanimously Sept. 10 to approve a $20,000 contribution to the Reading Community Fire Department for the 2024–25 fiscal year.
Councilmember VanCamp moved to approve the allocation and Councilmember Matz seconded; the roll-call vote was recorded as Yeas: George, Matz, VanCamp, Penney and Mayor Matthews. No members voted against the motion.
City Manager/Clerk/Treasurer Kimberly Blythe noted that the $20,000 is the first allocation from the city's FY 2024–25 budget for the fire department and that the action leaves a remaining $15,000 of funds budgeted for the fiscal year. The motion carried with no further discussion.
The council did not attach additional conditions to the contribution. The council adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
