Holbrook schools report strong start to year; assistant principal introduced and technology director honored

Holbrook — Holbrook school leaders reported a strong start to the 2025–26 school year at the Sept. 25 School Committee meeting, noting student achievements, staffing updates and district professional-development work.
Holbrook Middle-High School Principal Jennifer Bates said the year began positively, citing sports successes, awards for the CBN program and seven students invited to the BSU Honors Choir. Bates presented a slideshow of opening-week highlights and noted that Assistant Principal Jonathan Winkler has been a valuable addition to the building's leadership team. Superintendent Julie Hamilton formally introduced Winkler to the committee.
John F. Kennedy Elementary School Principal Mallory Stevens reported successful professional development at the start of the year, the introduction of new staff, placement of 21 Stonehill students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 classrooms, a completed fire drill, a Scholastic Book Fair and strong turnout at the open house.
Superintendent Hamilton announced the retirement of Marie Moriarty, Guidance Secretary at Holbrook Middle-High School, effective Sept. 30, 2025, after 21 years of service. The committee expressed appreciation for Moriarty's long service.
Hamilton also announced that Rob King, the district's Technology Director, received the Governor's citation for Excellence in Municipal Cyber Security; once the award is delivered it will be formally presented to him at a future committee meeting. Hamilton said district leadership is engaging in DESE-sponsored OPTIC professional development and working with a DESE consultant on a new strategic plan; MCAS score results remain embargoed until Sept. 29 and will be presented at the next meeting.
The meeting included a finance update from Business Administrator Christine Suckow, who reported no areas of concern in the FY26 operational and payroll reports included in the packet. Several personnel hires and resignations were recorded in the personnel section of the minutes.
What happens next: MCAS results will be shared with the committee after the embargo lifts on Sept. 29; personnel transitions and the cybersecurity award presentation will be scheduled for future meetings.
