Hinsdale officials report municipal aggregation approval, DPW updates and near-10% school budget increase

At the Jan. 14 Hinsdale Select Board meeting, town staff and local representatives provided updates on several operational matters.
Town Administrator Bob Graves said the Country Road Co-op will host a site visit to consider tying into the town’s system or rebuilding its system. Graves also reported that Hinsdale’s municipal aggregation plan has been approved and that Colonial Power Group will put the plan out to bid; residents should see options by mid-May, he said.
Finance Chair Shaun Galliher said finances are tracking within the current budget and that FY27 budget planning has begun. He noted the school superintendent has reached out to schedule a meeting with the finance committee.
DPW Superintendent James Callahan described routine winter plowing operations, reported that Old Windsor Bridge is on the state list, and said the water-treatment plant is functioning while staff await remote-access setup and flow-meter calibration. Callahan said a pipe leak near chemical storage required installing an emergency valve to prevent future filtration shutdowns.
Transfer Station Attendant Barry O’Keefe told the board that rats have been seen in some containers and recommended hiring an exterminator; he also said the compactor cannot yet accept 10 tons of cardboard. School Committee Representative Dave Stuart presented a preliminary school budget showing a 9.94% increase, which brings the district total to $40.643 million; he said the district is monitoring enrollment at Becket Washington School and noted that Rich Peters and Charlotte Crane were elected School Committee chair and vice chair.
Under other business, the minutes record that water service was restored at 53 Off South Street with a new shut-off valve, EV charging stations are being installed, and that Laura Galliher relayed an abatement request from Mike Viner related to solar-field assessed values and a PILOT agreement submitted after assessment values were filed.
