New 'Friends' nonprofit formed to support Lancaster County Historical Museum

Mr. Witherspoon told the Lancaster County Council that a new independent nonprofit, the Friends of the Lancaster County Historical Museum, has officially formed and completed its IRS and Secretary of State filings.
"The Friends of the Lancaster County Historical Commission is a nonprofit group that seeks to raise funds for the museum's exhibits, programs, and build a membership base of individuals and businesses who are committed to the museum's success," Witherspoon read aloud.
He said the organization will operate separately from the county historical commission but will partner with the commission and local cultural bodies. He listed the group's leadership and board members, including Kathy Ko, Dr. Allison Job (vice president, a professor at USC Lancaster), Brenda Jones, Sandy Lacados (president), Susan Langford, Mickey Stacks and Brittany Taylor Driggs (USC Lancaster, Native American Museum).
Witherspoon said the Friends group has already engaged in community outreach—participating in a Red Rose Festival booth—and will host an event on June 27 to introduce itself and launch programming around the historical courthouse, which he said dates to 1828.
Council members thanked Witherspoon for the update and indicated they expect a continuing partnership between the county and the new nonprofit on museum exhibits and public programs.
The council did not take a formal vote on the Friends group at the meeting; Witherspoon asked for questions and offered to follow up with staff for details.
The council will receive further information as the group's plans and partnership agreements with county departments are developed.
