Luther council authorizes Veterans Park spending, approves routine bills and a $400 reimbursement

President Andy Treiber called the special meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the council moved through a series of routine approvals. The council accepted the March 2025 financial report showing balances including a General Fund balance of $128,274.58 and a Certificate of Deposit balance of $262,785.21; Tiffany Clark moved to accept the report, seconded by James Bacon, and the motion carried by voice vote.
On a separate roll-call motion, Brittany Carlson moved to approve the bills presented — including items for Consumers Energy, Republic Services and Crystal Flash — seconded by Tiffany Clark. The roll call recorded "Yes" votes from Rose Wetherall, Michelle Goodman, Tiffany Clark, Brittany Carlson, Holmes, James Bacon and President Andy Treiber; the motion carried.
Community Improvement Committee work on Veterans Park was a focal point of new business. Michelle Goodman said poles and a U.S. flag are on order, Family Farm and Home will donate cement for the pole bases, and the committee still needs to cover the cost of poles and lighting. Council member Holmes moved to permit the CIC to spend up to $2,500 on Veterans Park improvements; James Bacon seconded. The roll call returned the same recorded yes votes (Wetherall, Goodman, Clark, Carlson, Holmes, Bacon and Treiber) and the motion carried.
The council also approved a $400 reimbursement to Jamie Martin for a bounce-house rental after Carlson moved and Bacon seconded; the recorded votes mirrored the prior roll call and the motion carried. Veterans Park cleaning was scheduled for Sunday, May 4, with volunteers requested to help install poles.
The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn by Bacon, seconded by Holmes; the council adjourned at 7:40 p.m. Carrie Fansler signed the minutes as Village clerk.
