Reed City Council approves $1.7M in bills, contracts, events and DDA map amendment

At its Sept. 9 meeting Reed City Council approved payment of $1,716,421.04 in bills, approved a construction change order and a series of community permits and purchases including Halloween hours, fireworks, a WWTP tractor sale, a grant application, and a Christmas tree purchase; council also approved an amended DDA map after tabling the item earlier in the meeting.
Reed City Council on Sept. 9 approved a package of routine and project actions, including payment of $1,716,421.04 in bills, contract work authorizations, community event approvals and an amended Downtown Development Authority (DDA) map.
Council approved payment of $1,716,421.04 on a roll-call vote; the record lists Nicole Woodside, Dan Burchett, Mayor Roger Meinert, Trevor Guiles, Brad Nixon and Russell Nehmer as voting in favor. Council also approved change order 855450-3 #2 for the DWSRF 23' Gerber Construction project and authorized the city manager to sign the paperwork.
Other approvals included setting Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31, 2024, from 5–7 p.m. (with a resolution to be brought back to make that annual), awarding the WWTP 2001 John Deere tractor to high bidder Michael Battle for $10,100, and approving Reed City High School homecoming fireworks on Oct. 11, 2024. Council authorized applying for a Michigan Arts and Culture Council grant with signature authority for the mayor or city manager, and approved purchasing a 26-foot panel Christmas tree from Holiday Outdoor for $24,402.50 using funds from the Florence Diak Estate.
Earlier in the meeting council tabled discussion of forming a DDA until DDA member Bob Toland could attend; after Toland arrived later in the meeting council moved to proceed with the DDA area as presented and amended three areas on the DDA map. The motion to move forward passed by voice vote.
City Manager Rich Saladin submitted a written report and introduced Amanda Grant as the incoming city clerk hire. Charles Lupo, president of the Sesquicentennial Committee, provided a brief update on festival planning and invited council and the public to a committee meeting scheduled for Sept. 17 at the Fire Department.
Mayor Roger Meinert adjourned the meeting at 7:31 P.M.
