Rockwood officials report on public safety, vehicle surplus and announce Memorial Day parade

Police and fire department updates and community announcements featured prominently at the City of Rockwood council meeting on May 20.

Police Department: Police Chief Hill presented the April 2026 activity report, which the council accepted and filed (M-108-26). Chief Hill said Olmstead will be partially closed during construction and reported that a bear believed to have been in the area has moved out of the city.

Fire Department: The council accepted the Fire Department April activity report (M-109-26). The council authorized payment of $1,050 to Elden Industries for SCBA hydrostatic testing (M-110-26), and Fire Chief Mercure announced a sealed-bid sale of a 1984 Ford F350 with a minimum bid of $8,000; sealed bids are due by 3 p.m. on June 2, 2026. Sealed-bid forms are available at City Hall or by email.

Community events: Mayor Troy A. Cox announced the Memorial Day parade for Monday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m., starting on Lamont Street and ending at Mercure Park. Planned activities include face painting, helicopter rides, bounce houses, pony rides, six bicycle giveaways (two tickets per child), food trucks and free hotdogs. The mayor said the city may recognize dispatchers, police, nurses, EMS and DPW personnel and offered special recognition to Matt Edwards and two volunteers.

The mayor also announced a city-wide garage sale scheduled for May 29–31; permits cost $2 and must be purchased by May 27 at noon. Council Member Grzywacz requested that a digital copy of all registered garage sales be posted on the city's Facebook page.
