Rockwood council approves $56,250 Plante & Moran contract; signs off on department reports and waives park fees

The Rockwood City Council on April 15 approved a $56,250 engagement letter and professional services agreement with Plante & Moran and completed a slate of routine departmental approvals and event permissions.
Council considered the Plante & Moran contract during the administrator’s report. The motion (M-089-26), moved by Councilmember Grzywacz and seconded by Councilmember Robertson, passed with six ayes; Councilwoman Grzywacz cast the lone no vote. The contract amount is $56,250. No additional terms or scope details were provided in the record.
Council also accepted the March police and fire department reports. The council approved several vendor payments tied to equipment and vehicle maintenance: $653.94 to Taylor Chevy for repairs to police unit 13-2 (M-081-26) and $644.39 to Conway’s Car Care covering two invoices for a 2021 Explorer (M-082-26). The council approved the police activity report for March (M-080-26).
On fire department business, council voted to accept the March fire report (M-083-26) and approved the annual ESO service contract for $1,415.09 (M-084-26); payment of $1,727.40 to CFS Inspections for required ladder inspections (M-085-26); and $1,096.53 to Municipal Emergency Service to run the flow test on self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), noted in the record as required by NFPA standards (M-086-26). The council also approved a $1,900 payment to the Monroe County Firefighters Association (M-087-26). All of those motions carried unanimously.
The council approved the treasurer’s financial report for the first quarter of 2026 (M-088-26). The administrator’s office presented and the council approved a $1,170 quote from MI Custom Signs for a community center sign (M-090-26).
Under old business the council recorded community events including a Spring Tea scheduled for April 26 at the Rockwood Community Center and a Rotary request to waive rental fees for a Touch-a-Truck event on August 29; the council approved use of Mercure Park and waived associated rental fees (M-091-26). Councilman Johnson asked when road repairs would begin; Mayor Troy A. Cox responded, "as soon as the weather breaks." Mayor Cox also told the council that road mileage renewal will appear on the November 2026 ballot and reminded residents to keep debris out of storm drains. A Memorial Day parade is scheduled for May 25 at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 32409 Fort Rd. and was adjourned following a unanimous motion to close the session (M-092-26).
